Crazy Busy

dartanianbig.jpg Between work and trying to prepare my two bands for the big show on Saturday, this last week has been crazy. I’m really stoked for this weekend because of the festivities as well as for everything to get back to normal. All of this hasn’t stopped me from coming across some cool stuff though…

My friend Vincent has a premiere for the latest music video he created. This time for the song Kursk by Ian Cooke. Showings are this weekend at the Esquire. I highly suggest you check out the video and any of his other work as he is definitely one of the most gifted and creative people I know. Check out his site for all the details.

Another good friend of mine, Aaron Ray, had his very first solo art opening this past weekend. If you live in Denver, stop by the 400 on 10th and Bannock to check it out. He did a great job and also celebrated his 30th birthday last Thursday. Nice job dude. Check out a recap of the art opening at Joy Engine.

I finally got around to setting up an account on Flickr. I’ve been really impressed with the interface thus far. Lots of cool Ajaxy scripts going on. Hopefully this will encourage me to start taking more pictures. I did get a new camera for Christmas after all.

Speaking of nerdy stuff… if you’re into that kind of thing check out this post about powerful CSS techniques. Lots of really great ideas and tutorials.

I also wanted to give a quick thank you to Joy Engine, CSS Mania and the Daily Slurp for linking to my site… Now, back to work!

California Love

images1.jpeg I’m writing from San Francisco, where I’ve been spending a lot of time the last few months on a pretty sizable project with the folks at Pivotal Labs. Things are going well and there will hopefully be a private beta of my project within the next month or so. This trip has been a bit more fun than the last few as I got to spend Monday afternoon exploring the city. I walked down to the Mission District, grabbed some tea at Ritual Roasters, bought a bunch of music at Amoeba and even saw some redwoods. I’m so pathetically out of shape that all of the walking really took its toll on me, but hopefully that will be improving now that I’ve started playing hockey again. I’m finally getting some exercise!

Anyway, just wanted to give a general update on things. Also, if you haven’t seen, the portfolio section of my site is finally up and running. I’m still working out a few minor tweaks but go check it out and let me know what you think. Oh, and check out this great article my friend Suz sent me yesterday… 14 Shopping Days Until Inappropriate Card Day!

Wired

l_aabf03982e74a4eda385c9e5c08bec4b.jpgWow. A new music project I’m working on with some friends called PowerPoint just got a little blurb on Wired. I’m speechless. Speaking of bands. An old band of mine, Dartanian, will be playing a final show on March 1st in Denver. Coincidentally this will also be the first show of the new band. Should be a really fun night!

Holiday Survival

l_aad0ffd2fbea7048f8a7cd8628cb5509.jpg All of my holiday commitments, parties, etc. are finally over. The last month has included quality family time, poker, dance parties, open bars, wearing pajamas for two days straight, hanging out in the mountains, compiling year end lists, babies, birthdays, continuing work on a new musical project, setting a date to end an old musical project, lots of bowling, being away from the office for two weeks, not finishing nearly as much as I planned to with said time off and discovering the joy that is Rock Band. All in all a lot of good times though (especially for New Year’s). Here’s some proof:

New Time

I’m finally getting the new site up and running. I’ve split things up a bit more this time with the portfolio and blog being completely independent of each other. This way I can give each proper attention. I’m still working out a few kinks, so I’m sorry if you run across some sort of error while you’re here. Thanks for checking things out though.

Blacklisted?

Egg Sandwich Over the weekend I went with some friends to the new Mona’s Restaurant on Broadway for a nice little Sunday brunch. What a disaster. When we arrived we were told it would be a 15 minute wait for a table which sounded perfect as we had plans to go see Juno in about two hours. An hour and a half later we finally got seated. During the wait we got to see a restaurant with half the tables sitting empty and then people who came in well after us get seated. Needless to say we were pretty angry and who knows why we didn’t leave before this. I guess we wanted to see the wait through. Some of our group even left and walked up to the movie theater to see other times the movie was playing and still got back before we were seated. The manager was nice enough to comp us our drinks at that point (my chai was cold). He explained that some cooks hadn’t showed up for work, which is tough, but hardly explains the horrible service by the hostess. She never offered any explanation of what was going on and wasn’t responsive to our questions at all. Another hour later our food finally arrived. It was pretty mediocre. My special lady friend’s french toast was cold. We missed our 1 o’clock showing of Juno. We decided to see the next showing, but one of us couldn’t do that time. At this point the manager felt bad enough to comp us the entire meal. My neighbor went the same day and didn’t have anything comped, but had what sounded to be a similar experience.

Anyway, my friends and I have been blacklisting restaurants since college, meaning under no circumstances can we ever go back to a blacklisted restaurant. Some of them include Old Chicago, Que Bueno, Country Buffet and Alexander’s Mexican Restaurant. I thought it would be fun to start documenting these experiences on this site. Question is, does Mona’s deserve to be put on the list? It was without question one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant, but they did apologize and comp us the whole meal. Right now I’m definitely leaning towards a new addition. The movie was excellent by the way.
