If Fonts Were People

The fact that Arial is a redneck was enough to sell this for me. Awesome. Wow, I’m a nerd.

A Really Bad Idea For A Product Name

My friend Matt sent me this yesterday. It might be old news, but I’ve never seent it. Pretty unbelievable though. This must have come out right before the name became unbelievably taboo.

We Need To Talk About Your TPS Reports.

I’m on vacation right now so the following isn’t exactly relevant for me at the moment, but I thought I’d direct all those sitting in an office to the Work Friendly Browser. It basically skins any site you’d like to browse (like mine) into a Microsoft Word like view. When you check it out make sure to press the boss key. The result is priceless.

This idea reminds me of the “work safe mode” from listentoamovie.com. Anyone remember that site?

Do You Love Me Or My Hair?

white gold rocking

The new campaign, for Milk of all people, is strange and awesome. The concept is based around a band/dude named White Gold. They have interactive music videos (not unlike the Arcade Fire videos I talked about before) for songs like Do You Love Me Or My Hair, biography snippets, games, taming of a white tiger, etc. The budget was obviously huge and probably incredibly tedious to produce, but oh man it looks like it was fun to work on. What I’d most like to know though, is how did Goodby get Milk to buy in to such an insane project?

Check it out.

Time Machine In The Works (No, Seriously)

timemachine.jpg

Some quick highlights from the article…

According to the research published by Irina Arefieva and Igor Volovich, “in general relativity, a time-like curve in space-time will run from past to future. But in some space-times the curves can intersect themselves, giving a closed-like curve, which is interpreted as a time machine - which suggests the possibility of time travel”

  1. 20 years work-in-progress
  2. team of 7,000 physicists from more than 80 nations
  3. 27 kilometers in circumference, 175 meters underground
  4. facilitating head-on collision of protons, travelling very near speed-of-light
  5. each tunnel is big enough to run a train through it.
  6. temperatures generated: more than 1000,000 times hotter than the sun’s core
  7. superconducting magnets are cooled to a temperature colder than in deep space

Check out the article

The fact that people are actually working on something of this magnitude is incredibly awesome and incredibly scary. Bending of time, wormholes, etc. are still hard for me to even grasp at a conceptual level.

Anyway, I’d also like to mention that Dark Roasted Blend (where I read about this) is chalk full of amazing content to browse through. The site design is quite messy though making reading pretty difficult, so I highly suggest using your favorite newsreader to read the posts as it gets rid of all the superfluous elements.
