Getting Old

Darcie, myself and Joey

Over the weekend, my friends’ Kyle and Jaimie got married up in Estes Park. The whole event was beautiful and it was so much fun to hang out with everyone (and eat pizza rolls out of bucket at 1 in the morning). I learned an important lesson though… I’m old. I bought a suit about 2 years ago. I went through the whole fitting process and everything. That might say enough in and of itself, but it gets worse. I’ve only worn it once since I got it and didn’t really consider the idea of trying it on before the ceremony. When I was putting on the pants right before the wedding I very quickly realized they don’t fit anymore. I basically had to go through the whole night with my pants unbuttoned. Luckily the jacket covered up this fact, so hopefully I didn’t look completely ridiculous.

Anyway, I’m headed out on a road trip up to Canada this week, but when I get back I’m buying a bicycle and a gym membership.

The rumors and lies being egregiously spread during the election this year have been truly despicable. I would like to think any sane person would be appalled by so many recent comments motivated by racism, sexism and a lot of other ‘isms.’ I’ll openly admit I’m an Obama supporter, but I’d be just as offended by some of the stuff I’ve seen directed towards him the last few weeks regardless. From reading about “Terrorist Fist Jabs” to a Texas GOP Pin Saying: “If Obama Is President, Will We Still Call It The White House?” to Anti-christ claims, it makes me truly fearful of what ends people will go to so their candidate of choice will win.

God forbid people base their vote on a candidate’s actual stances on the myriad of issues in our country right now.

iConcertCal is a free iTunes plug-in that monitors your music library and generates a personalized calendar of upcoming concerts in your city. It is available for both Windows and Mac OS X and supports worldwide searches.

I just installed it and it is awesome. It runs within iTunes and its search is pretty expansive with shows ranging from Poison to my friend’s bands showing up for me. It also provides a calendar of upcoming releases from bands in your library. Anyway, I just found out Journey, Heart and Cheap Trick are playing in Denver on July 9th. I’ve got to go buy some tickets!

My buddy Vin alerted me recently that he is having an art show at the Andenken Gallery in Denver soon. The opening is June 6, so if you’re in town I highly recommend checking it out. If you’re not familiar with Vin’s work, check out some pieces from his portfolio. Here’s what he said recently…

“I am in the studio working like a banshee preparing for my June 6th show at Andenken. I am in the process of completing 11 pieces for this show. All are lightboxes based on my experiences in different cities around the world. I will be showing with Mandy Ploegsma and Scott Lefavor. It’s gonna be an amazing show. I can’t tell you how good it is to be back at it. It’s been too long. Please attend this show if you can.”

Hope to see you there!

I’m on vacation right now so the following isn’t exactly relevant for me at the moment, but I thought I’d direct all those sitting in an office to the Work Friendly Browser. It basically skins any site you’d like to browse (like mine) into a Microsoft Word like view. When you check it out make sure to press the boss key. The result is priceless.

This idea reminds me of the “work safe mode” from listentoamovie.com. Anyone remember that site?

In between working on 4 freelance projects in the last week, 3 at my day job, moving (of sorts) and everything else that happens in my world on a regular basis I managed to get pretty sick this week. It was great timing. Because of all the craziness going on I couldn’t wait for the weekend to finally have a chance for some quality rest and relaxation. Anyway, since I’m just hanging out at my house tonight I thought I would give my response to an interesting little questionnaire I saw floating around some blogs a while ago about my iTunes library…

Do You Love Me Or My Hair?

white gold rocking

The new campaign, for Milk of all people, is strange and awesome. The concept is based around a band/dude named White Gold. They have interactive music videos (not unlike the Arcade Fire videos I talked about before) for songs like Do You Love Me Or My Hair, biography snippets, games, taming of a white tiger, etc. The budget was obviously huge and probably incredibly tedious to produce, but oh man it looks like it was fun to work on. What I’d most like to know though, is how did Goodby get Milk to buy in to such an insane project?

Check it out.
